PATAKA is the cultural heart of Porirua City - A museum and art gallery that is dedicated to celebrating the region's heritage and showcasing the very best in contemporary Maori, Pacific Island and New Zealand art.

PATAKA opened in September 1998 and since then it has carved out a niche for itself in the region's highly competitive market for cultural entertainment.

The centre has become very successful with annual visitor numbers growing from 30,000 to over 160,000 people P.A. *Year to July 2004
